Well, hello there! Thanks for stopping by to read my ramblings. I hope you find some amusing, perhaps inspiring or at least a good 'waste of time'.

A Little Science, History and Funnies

This week I've begun a new adventure - IVIG.  You might be wondering what IVIG is, if not skip this part (there's a funny/cutie later on).  Here's my Science lesson for you guys today:  IVIG is Intravenous Immune Globulin, now try saying that five times fast!  IVIG is created by extracting the plasma from at least 1,000 donors, treated in some super secret special way and voila Immunoglobulin G. is borne.  This antibody is then given to people, such as myself, over the course of several hours via an IV with the hopes that we get better.  So cross your fingers, toes and eyes (if they haven't crossed already) and pray it works.  Okay, maybe not to that extent, fingers and toes will do.  Some people receive this treatment for immunosuppression and others, like myself, for an autoimmune disorder.   I'm doing a 5 day treatment which means for 5 consecutive days I sit with a tube in my arm for several hours and try to entertain the nurse who is administering it.  Today, I must admit I failed.  I fell asleep a short time after she gave me benedryl - but Super Hubby was here and watched the kiddos so don't worry no children were neglected in the making of this...well you get the point, the kids are fine!  Tomorrow, maybe I'll stay awake.
And now for my PSA:  I'd like thank those 5,000 plasma donors who have made it possible for me to receive IVIG this week.  Yes, that's right 5,000 - it takes roughly 1,000 donors to donate plasma for one treatment of IVIG!  Since I am having it over the course of 5 days, that's 5,000 people who have come together to help Just Me...Crystal D!
Now for the happenings around these here parts.  I've been super duper tired, which is understandable when your muscles are mush and your eyes don't work so well.  The neurologist wants me to wear a patch, but I just haven't been able to embrace my inner pirate just yet.  I swear I think the ducks on the kids' shower curtain have been mating at night.  I've awaken several times to use the bathroom, sat on the toilet (TMI maybe?  I didn't say what I was doing, maybe I just needed to take a rest and it was the closest seat?) and looked up to find the ducks dancing and they had multiplied!  They were shimming and shaking around and there were 2 and a half of every duck!  I think soon I will have to tell the ducks about the birds and the bees.  Maybe it could be my practice speech for the kids?  See, silver lining...talking to inanimate objects is usually frowned upon but when I point out it's the practice "birds and the bees" speech I think my hubby will let it slide - let's hope anyway.  If not, maybe he could order me my own coat that lets me hug myself in pink, since that is my favorite color.
Between the ducks dancing, and our kids I am humored quite often which is a good thing for me right now!  Hot Rod has taken to creating voices for everything.  Maybe he's aspiring to be a voice over or something, I'm not sure but it is funny.  He and Princess have been playing with the cowboy/cowgirl dress up clothes and he did a better Southern Drawl than his Mama did ya'll!  He kept that accent up the whole time they played...I laughed, a lot.  Maybe I should have him answer questions about the American Revolution in a British accent to keep it more fun for him.  Tell him that's what he'd talk like had we not broken away from Britain.  Good idea huh?
As for Princess, she cracks me up too - but you all know that.  I was preparing to give her a bath and she said why am I taking a bath now?  Like she doesn't enjoy taking a bath...right, I think they could both live in the tub if I let them.  I said, "Well, because you're dirty and you need to clean the germs off."  To which she looked at me straight faced and said, "Well I just had a bath on Uhmorial Day."  And in case you can't figure that out, that's Memorial Day, so of course I laughed and told her that she's had several baths since Memorial Day, they're cute!
Well, that's it for today guys!
